Modern Pop Art

Emerging after the nonsensical and surprising pieces of Surrealism, modern pop art artists perhaps ironically began to utilize largely commercialized ideas, images and aspects in their work. Instead of the idea of sophisticated and elite fine art, pop art celebrated mass culture. Many materials used in pop art paintings were literal replications, taken out of expected context and therefore extremely recognizable and memorable.
